It’s still too early for any iris to be blooming, but I am so ready for this winter to be over and all the flowers to appear! Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of the blooms from last year’s crop. Too bad they don’t last any longer than they do.
I really do love roses, but only as subject matter for graphite pencil drawings or paintings. Growing them is far too tricky (and time consuming) for me. Heck, I do well to get my lawn mowed during the summer! I’d rather be drawing!

I did this graphite pencil drawing from a painting of a bright red poppy I’d done last year. I love the high contrast in this drawing.
Floral graphite drawings are always fun to do. I did this one tonight as a preliminary study for a larger drawing (or maybe even a painting) I’ll start tomorrow. Now with spring’s arrival, there will be lots of subject matter available. Yeah! I’m ready.
