Graphite Pencil Drawing: Bad Hair Day Chicken

I kinda wish I could say I took this chicken in to pay my doctor and he refused, but I can’t. It didn’t happen. This is just a graphite pencil drawing of a real chicken on a local farm. To top off that wild hair-do, she’s red and white. Too dang cute. And yes, she had a personality to match that wild hair-do.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Sidney, the Donkey Mascot

This is a graphite pencil drawing of Sidney, the donkey who is the mascot at my friend’s animal sanctuary in Colorado. He’s very friendly and greets all the volunteers with that funny braying he does to say “hello”. Such a character. He also happens to be best buds with Chico, the long-horn steer, who shares the pasture with him. I did another pencil drawing of the two of them together earlier and it’s posted in archives under farm animals if you’d like to see it.

Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of a pair of beautiful Arabian horses, a mare and her foal out for their morning romp across the pasture. It won’t be long now and baby will be separated from her mom, but for this day, they share the joy of running free together.

This is a rather quick graphite pencil drawing/sketch of my friend’s running white Arabian stallion, who was either very thrilled to have been turned out to the pasture, or…..he was just showing off for us. Beautiful creature!

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Quarter Horse

Years ago, I raised Arabian horses and traveled the west coast doing nothing but Arabian horse art. They are amazing, graceful, gorgeous animals and I admit, I was very partial to their elegant ways. I thought Quarter horses, on the other hand, were quite awkward and clumsy looking, not so attractive at all. That all changed after I attended a rodeo in Reno! My respect and appreciation for Quarter horses changed completely after watching these intelligent and powerful animals “work”. I was in awe! So, in honor of the Quarter horse, here’s a graphite pencil drawing highlighting that very muscular and powerful rear end!

Graphite Pencil Drawing: The Long-horn Steer and the Burro

Meet Chico and Sidney. Chico is the long-horn steer, Sidney the burro. I was there the day they were introduced to each other on my friend’s ranch. This graphite pencil drawing captures the scene when it was apparent Sidney really wanted to be friends with Chico, who could have cared less at the time. Over the 20+ years they’ve shared that pasture, they’ve become the best of buds, practically inseparable.

Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of three donkeys who met me at the fenceline of my friend’s ranch. She told me they are brothers, and quite the characters, each having a very unique and distinct personality. I tried to capture that in this drawing.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Arabian Horse Sketch

Here’s a graphite pencil sketch of an Arabian horse that I did earlier. I intentionally left it rather loose because I want to experiment with my photo enhancing program to see how dramatic I can make this drawing. I’ll post the doctored up version and a comparison of the two after I play around for awhile.
