Graphite Pencil Drawing: Little Boy Fishing

This is a graphite pencil drawing of Josh, my friend’s son, while he was patiently waiting for that first nibble. Little boys and their fishing poles…and big hopes and dreams. I don’t even know if there were any fish in that shallow creek, but he was convinced, and sat for quite a long time before giving up. I love this drawing because it’s very peaceful to me. I may use it on the cover of my soon to be released book(let) on learning to draw.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: A Day at Lake Washington

I posted this graphite pencil drawing once before, and am posting it today because I accidentally deleted that original post. Dah. I still love this water scene. It’s my son, years ago, at our picnic at Lake Washington, trying to win over the reluctant and not-so-trusting duck with a loaf of bread. The goose wasn’t shy at all.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: More Puppy Love, Lucy and her Schnauzer

Lucy is my neighbor’s daughter and I did this graphite pencil drawing of her right after she was introduced to Lady, her new Schnauzer puppy. When Lucy’s Mom told me they were getting a dog, I was somewhat concerned. Lucy tended to be a super ball of energy always, and my thought was that any puppy would be completely overwhelmed by her constant motion. I had nothing to worry about however. Lady was just as hyper as Lucy, and they were a fantastic match. They wore each other out, snoozed on the same schedule and in some strange way, seemed to calm each other down. It was great fun to watch.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Tiny Cowgirl

I could tell you the real story behind this graphite pencil drawing, but I’m not going to. You’ll have to guess what was going on at the time. Maybe this little cowgirl was attending her pet rabbit’s funeral, or perhaps she had gotten into trouble and was apologizing for her error. You have the luxury of imagining what was really going on. Enjoy.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: True Love, a Girl and her Dog

As long as I can remember, I’ve always had at least one dog in my life, and so, consequently, so did my kids. This graphite pencil drawing is of my daughter and her dog, Shannon, patiently watching TV while waiting for Easter dinner to be served. Although the house was bustling with activity and noise, they both seemed totally content and peaceful to simply share the quiet moment on the couch. True love!

Graphite Pencil Drawing:A Little Boy and His Teddy Bear Guardians

I love this graphite pencil drawing! It’s of my son. One night I went in to check on Adam to make certain he was all covered up and sleeping peacefully. He was, and……….I felt I was being watched. So many teddy bear eyes looking at me! All his precious little teddy bears gathered around him as if they were guarding this little boy, in his red and white seersucker jammies and baseball cap, through the night. Although Adam is an adult now, I still hope he has “guardians” (on a higher level than teddy bears) watching over him all the time, not just when he’s sleeping.

This graphite pencil drawing is of my daughter, Katrina, who was watching TV one afternoon with our little dog Shannon. I had suggested it was time to take a nap, but she insisted she wasn’t tired and wanted to watch TV instead. OK, I said, as I gently covered her with the afghan. About 10 minutes later I looked over to see this scene…….both completely zonked out! I knew you weren’t tired, honey, just in need of a little snooze.

This graphite pencil drawing is of my friend Kathy’s daughter who was sitting up on a counter at the dog grooming parlor waiting for their pooch to be finished up when all heck broke loose between two large dogs. Maggie, the little girl, looked at me with those big eyes and her finger to her mouth. I’m not certain if she was trying to say “Be quiet now” or “OMG…..what was that all about?” I snapped her picture just at THE right moment! What a beautiful little girl!
