Zoe, the calico cat who has befriended the squirrel family, was taking a quick bath on the rock in the garden. I had to do this graphite pencil drawing of her very quickly, sketching her in first. I knew the trees and shrubs would remain long after she left the scene. However, I think this [...]

My neighbor recently adopted Sadie, a wonderful Basset Hound, from the local animal shelter. This dog has a very laid-back attitude about everything, almost like she’s the observer of life rather than an active participant. In this graphite pencil drawing I wanted to capture that attitude…you know, the “entertain me” thing. If I were going to make [...]

I posted this graphite pencil drawing once before, and am posting it today because I accidentally deleted that original post. Dah. I still love the scene. It’s my son at our picnic at the lake, trying to win over the reluctant and not-so-trusting duck with a loaf of bread. The goose wasn’t shy at all.

This graphite pencil drawing is from a photo I took at a seminar about furthering your education. This young woman was so intently listening, I couldn’t help but snap the photo. It’s almost a study in contrasts.

I’ve been adding new art on this blog for awhile now, and as much as I’d like it to be an interactive blog, with feedback and input from those of you who enjoy the art, there are very few comments about anything so far. Please let me know what would you like to see graphite pencil [...]

Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of my own dog, Keebler Alf, who is definitely a mixed breed dog! A mutt I found playing in traffic 17 years ago now. I have no clue what breeds combined to create this guy, but when I snapped the photo of him, he had taken over my favorite easy [...]

It’s spring and it seems all the birds are celebrating. Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of a little sparrow who was perched outside my window singing his (or her) little heart out. I love waking up to the sounds of all the birds welcoming the day. We should all be so enthusiastic, don’t you think?

A few days ago I posted a graphite pencil drawing of Lucy and her Schnauzer puppy. This is a drawing of Lady, the puppy. She’s full of energy, inquisitive (nosey) and into everything. Like I said in my earlier post, she and Lucy have a lot in common.

Meet Chico and Sidney. Chico is the long-horn steer, Sidney the burro. I was there the day they were introduced to each other on my friend’s ranch. This graphite pencil drawing captures the scene when it was apparent Sidney really wanted to be friends with Chico, who could have cared less at the time. Over the [...]
