Graphite Pencil Drawing: Squirrel
Oddly enough, my calico cat, Zoe, befriended a family of squirrels living in the pine trees along the house. It was fun to watch them interact and play together. I did this graphite pencil drawing of one of the juvenile squirrels from a photo. Although they spend most of their time in the trees, they do often visit the deck looking for hand-outs of corn or nuts. Hard to resist!
Hello Suzanne,
I work in Outdoor Education and am trying to learn how to make drawings of what I see in the natural world for my nature journal. Since today is actually “Squirrel Appreciation Day” I was hoping to help my young students sketch a squirrel for their own nature journals. Since I am not an artist, but am working to help the students work on observation skills to support their science lessons, I was looking for examples of drawings that show detail. Yours is incredible. Wow. . . wish you were here to give me lessons!! Thank you for posting these wonderful drawings!
Thank you, Suzanne. I was writing to tell my 3 year old grandson about seeing six black squirrels in my back yard and tried to draw one. Terrible. I found your beautiful sketch and drew an outline from that, putting six little black squirrels on the letter page. Will loves those busy, little mischiefs. Thank you so much
