Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of brilliant red and yellow pansies growing in my flower box. They are one of the earliest flowers to bloom in the spring here in the Pacific Northwest. I think there’s even one called “winter pansies”, but I’d have to look that up to be sure. And…….who cares? They’re all gorgeous to me and super fun to draw.

I have been working on creating a raised garden bed for the last two weeks solely for the purpose of planting tomatoes! Simply finding enough dirt to fill the bed has been a challenge, and once it’s complete, I can’t imagine anyone will ever move the thing! It’s two feet deep, 3 feet wide and 8 feet long. My hope is to harvest tomatoes that look as gorgeous as the ones in this graphite pencil drawing.

Now that spring is here, I’m back to doing flower drawings! Here is a single rose graphite pencil drawing done from one of many photos of the yellow roses in my front yard. It’s too early for them to be blooming this year, but it won’t be long now. Yipee!

Years ago my daughter worked at a fast food restaurant. One evening, while waiting for her to get off work, I parked near one of those big dumpsters out behind the restaurant and was totally entertained by the noisy and bold crows and seagulls raiding the dumpster. This graphite pencil drawing of a crow is from a photo I took that evening. I think it’s a great shot of a bird in flight, even if this particular bird was preparing to dive into a dumpster again! HA.

This graphite pencil drawing was inspired by my daughter. As I watch her mature and struggle for answers in her own adult life, it occurred to me she deals with far more crap than I ever even imagined when I was her age. It really is a jungle out there for young people. I am proud of her and the choices she has made.

The Columbine flower is the state flower of Colorado. It’s a wildflower that grows in temperate climates. Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of this delicate and gorgeous flower. Can hardly wait for them to bloom again this year.

I heard on the news last week that the Woodland Park Zoo’s male Sumatrin tiger is ill with cancer. They’ll put him through chemo, but…….no guarantees. Other than that, all they can do is “make him comfy”. Geesh. I guess the good news is one of his lady friends is pregnant with (at least) 3 cubs! Great news for this very endangered species. Here is a graphite pencil drawing in honor of the ailing Woodland Park Zoo’s tiger.

I kinda wish I could say I took this chicken in to pay my doctor and he refused, but I can’t. It didn’t happen. This is just a graphite pencil drawing of a real chicken on a local farm. To top off that wild hair-do, she’s red and white. Too dang cute. And yes, she had a personality to match that wild “bad hair“.

This is a graphite pencil drawing I did of my new old dog, Brody. They said he was a yorkshire terrier. Yeah, sure………a 20 pound yorky!!! They said he’s five. He acts like he’s 10. He doesn’t know how to play, but after 5 months of being here, is willing to try. He lived in a crate most of his life. Sad. And……. happier days are ahead for him now. He’s the center of attention and being spoiled rotten.

This is a graphte pencil drawing of my friend Marty’s male pomeranian, Rascal. It’s a perfect name for him! Marty says the dog is housebroken, and…………maybe he is, maybe not. One thing this little pom isn’t is neutered. Housebroken or not, he isn’t allowed in my house any longer unless Marty is holding him! It’s for sure a guy thing, if you know what I mean.
