Graphite Pencil Drawing: Mare and Foal

Here’s a graphite pencil drawing of an Arabian mare and her foal out for their morning romp across the pasture. It won’t be long now and baby will be separated from his/her mom, but for this day, they share the joy of running free together.

Not a Graphite Pencil Drawing: Computer Art

I know this blog is all about graphite pencil drawing, and yet… I’m very excited about my new Zazzle store. And besides, I haven’t really drawn anything new since my little dog died. Instead I’ve been focused on Zanny Rants. Zanny is a computer generated character I came up with for one of my other blogs, http://www.zannyrants.com, thinking the images would just be used to accompany whatever the subject for the day happened to be. However, I’ve had so many requests for the images, they are now available over at http://www.zazzle.com/zannyrants* on ALL KINDS of things.  Mousepads, magnets, aprons. Eventually I’ll included greeting cards and t-shirts and mugs, and, and, and…. there’s so much more. It’s an amazing place. I do hope you’ll check out all my art available there, even some of the graphite pencil drawings you’ll find at this blog. For now, here’s a small sampling of snarky, outspoken Zanny. Enjoy! (And yes, I will get back to drawing soon.)

Graphite Pencil Drawing/Gouache Painting: In honor of my dog

I know I posted this graphite pencil drawing awhile back, but… this posting is in honor of Keebler Alf’s life. He died on Friday, and I guess I’m still in shock and grieving. Oh sure, he was just a mutt, and he was 18 years old, but was in what I thought was excellent health. I did a corresponding gouache (opaque watercolor) painting from the same photo I used for the graphite pencil drawing. I miss the little guy.

Graphite Pencil Drawing/Sketch: Arabian Horse in Motion

This is a rather quick graphite pencil drawing/sketch of my friend’s Arabian stallion, who was either very thrilled to have been turned out to the pasture, or…..he was just showing off for us. Beautiful creature!

Graphite Pencil Drawing: More Roses

It won’t be long now before the roses are blooming for the season. Can hardly wait! Here’s another graphite pencil drawing of the beauties!

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Ballet is Exhausting!

Here’s a rather quick graphite pencil sketch of two ballet dancers at the end of their performance, which, by the by, was breathtaking. I took some photos and may do more drawings in the future. Very powerful scenes providing lots of rich subject matter.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Fisherman’s face

I don’t really have a great story to tell about this graphite pencil drawing. I don’t even know this man’s name. He was a fisherman on his boat, and I loved the expression on his face ~ thoughtful, contemplative, perhaps worried.

Not a Graphite Pencil Drawing

Ok, I confess. I haven’t done any graphite pencil drawing in a few days to post on here, but…….here’s why. I just happened by the paint recycling place late last week. It’s where you can get free paint that’s been turned in by others. Well, I came home with $600 worth of art paint, stuff I was totally unfamiliar with prior to my visit. It’s wonderful, fun stuff and here’s just a sampling of the many pieces I created over the long week-end. Have no clue what I’ll do with all these creations now, and… I’ll get back to drawing soon.

The item on the left was an empty Altoids box! Recycling is a very good thing. Now it could hold earrings or pins or whatever. Cute, huh? The other one, on the right, is done on a 5 x 7 canvas board using a stencil for the leaf.

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Koala Bear

Remember back awhile to the horrible Australia fires, and the story of the fireman who graciously shared his water bottle with a little injured Koala Bear. That story inspired this graphite pencil drawing. I hope by now that little bear is able to relax and trust enough to look like the one in this drawing!

Graphite Pencil Drawing: Irish Setter Quick Sketch

This is a quick graphite pencil sketch of Blue, one of my neighbor’s Irish Setters. He’s terrific, friendly, always waggin’ that big tail. He was staring at me for attention when I snapped his photo, and when I saw the photo I had to laugh right out loud. Blue has one of those noses that looks all sunbleached and pink, and it just stood out like an enormous Rudolf nose. This isketch is an attempt to capture that nose, which is, afterall, one of the breed’s finest features.
